Tools to Realise Socio-Economic Benefits from Floodplains Under Restoration (TREASURE)

UK floodplains are contested spaces; it is estimated that 90% of our floodplains are no longer functional. Valued for fertile soils and supporting our towns and cities, floodplains are subject to more frequent and intense flood events due to climate change. The wet start to 2024 leading to flooding of properties and crop losses has prompted a conversation about use and management of our floodplains to better manage these growing risks. How can we re-purpose rural floodplains to deliver flood and drought resilience and make a contribution to nature and climate targets?
