348 - Living Roof Live Lab
What this challenge is about
Green roofs are an innovative way to tackle climate change and biodiversity loss. Greening rooftops recreates lost habitat/green space where a structure has been built and reduces water runoff by slowing down the flow of rainwater, where it is used by the vegetation, evaporates or slowly drains off. As average rainfall increases, this has become more critical. With climate change, cities are getting warmer and vegetated roofs can reduce air temperatures by approximately 3 degrees, therefore cooling our towns and cities and reducing the heat island effect. Green roofs can also have insulating properties making buildings more energy efficient.
